(This series could easily be continued indefinitely, or at least until terminated by death or hopeless senility, but perhaps readers are tired; and for me, other tasks beckon. Actually “What Is History?” was not intended to become a publication at all. It began as a collection to be distributed to my former graduate students for reflection on the calling of historian. It has expanded rather beyond that into a commentary on the world and humanity as well. Let’s end here, unless there is strong demand from the editors and readers, with the one last quotation from Scripture.)
