Race, Crime, and the Media
If five whites carjacked a black couple, tortured them for hours, then dumped the bodies, the national news media would descend upon the benighted city in which the dastardly crime occurred and, having reported the unspeakable deeds, subject the rest of us to rants on racism and harangues on hate. It happened with James Byrd, the black man dragged to death behind a car in Jasper, Texas, and it happens even when the crimes are fictive, as with huckstress Tawana Brawley and, more recently, the lacrosse team at Duke University. In such cases, we are told that whether or not the crimes actually occurred does not matter: We learn a lesson simply in contemplating them.
The truth is, we are never permitted to contemplate the truth about race and crime. Most interracial crime involves blacks harming whites, and federal statistics show that blacks commit more hate crimes than whites. The news media’s stiff-necked refusal to report these facts is escalating and indisputable, as several recent cases show, and invites us to question why so many news professionals—so dedicated to disclosing so many unwelcome facts about so many subjects—are so unwilling to examine this one. “Liberal media bias” isn’t the only answer. Something else is at work.
First, a few examples. The murders of Christopher Newsom and Channon Christian in Knoxville, Tennessee, merited almost no attention from the national news media and none from the New York Times. According to police, on January 7, a band of black criminals carjacked the pair, then treated them to a nightmare of sexual torture. The gang raped Newsom, shot him, burned him with gasoline, wrapped him in bedding, then set him ablaze. Afterward, they dumped his body on nearby railroad tracks. They forced Christian to watch this and repeatedly (and savagely) raped her, then sprayed liquid cleaner in her mouth to erase their residual DNA. After killing her, the thugs placed her in trash bags and stuffed her in a garbage can. Five suspects await trial.
On Halloween, three white girls approached a haunted maze in the backyard of a home in Long Beach, California. A group of a dozen black boys, according to newspaper accounts, began taunting them. The boys grabbed their crotches, asking, “Are you down with it?” The girls went through the maze, but when they returned to the front yard, the boys were waiting to taunt them again. Then they heard another male voice declare, “I hate white people.” “White bitches,” others shouted. The girls started to leave, but a mob of about 30 blacks, including young girls, gathered and pelted them with pumpkins and lemons. “We hate white people,” they hollered, “f--king white people.” When the defenseless girls tried to flee, the mob attacked in full force, beating and stomping the first victim to the ground. When she tried to fight back, a black man smashed her head with a skateboard, then hit her again when she was on the ground, unconscious. The mob kicked her anyway. When one friend tried to rescue her, the mob swarmed, punched her until she dropped, then stomped, and kicked her on the ground. She received 12 facial fractures and severe damage to one of her eyes. The third girl also tried to help, but the mob beat her to a pulp—again, kicking and stomping her when they got her on the ground.
The judge tossed out DNA evidence from a victim’s blood on one attacker’s clothes because, one news report said, it would complicate the case. Ultimately, he sentenced those found guilty to house arrest and probation. Again, the New York Times and other national news media mostly ignored it. No wondering how it could happen. No soul-searching. No lectures on racism from the university professoriate, Jesse Jackson, or Al Sharpton.
In April 2005, a mob of 30 blacks attacked four white girls at Marine Park in Brooklyn, New York, shouting “black power,” according to the small weekly that covered it, and invoking Martin Luther King, Jr. Two of the victims landed in the hospital, one with a broken nose. Immediately, police denied this was a hate crime. The national news media ignored it. And again, the Rainbow Coalition took a powder.
On December 14, 2000, two black brothers, Jonathan and Reginald Carr, invaded the Wichita home of Jason Befort and his two friends, Bradley Heyka and Aaron Sandler, who were entertaining Befort’s girlfriend, Heather Muller, and Sandler’s former girlfriend (“H.G.”). (Sandler was then studying for the priesthood.) As with the carjacking in Knoxville, the black men, ending a week-long feral rampage, subjected their five white victims to an orgy of sexual torture nearly beyond description. After beating the men senseless, they forced the women to have sex, attempted to force the men to have sex with the women, then raped and sodomized the women. They robbed them and drove the naked (the women were clad only in sweaters) victims to a field and executed four of them. H.G., having been shot in the head and run over repeatedly with a truck, managed to survive. Despite H.G.’s testimony, which indicated that the brothers made numerous racial slurs while torturing and attempting to kill her, prosecutors hotly denied that this was a hate crime. Again, the national news media ignored the story.
Stories about all these crimes appeared in local newspapers and on local television news. (Even local media often omit the race of the suspect.) Somehow, these stories never rocketed to the editorial stratosphere of CBS, CNN, the Washington Post, or the New York Times. Some national-news websites published a smattering of AP stories about these crimes. Had they involved whites attacking blacks, all of these news organizations would have dispatched staff writers, photographers, producers, and cameramen to get the story.
That is exactly what happened when three white lacrosse players at Duke University were accused of raping a black stripper at an off-campus party; the national news media descended in full force. The charges smeared the team, and the Duke lacrosse season was canceled. Hundreds of stories appeared about this fictive crime—a case in which the prosecutor was forced to quit and may be disbarred for egregious ethical violations. The New York Times, the Washington Post, and the major television networks unlimbered a blunderbuss and sprayed us with stories. It was time to search our souls for racism. For intolerance. For bigotry. For a crime that never happened. Of course, Durham was recently the site of a rape at an off-campus party at which men from Duke were present. The national news media ignored it, and the Raleigh News and Observer eliminated race in its description of both the party and the suspect. A black fraternity hosted the party. The suspect is black; the victim is white.
The leftists who run the national news media know what they are doing, and they won’t confront the truth about race and crime; that would require reforming their thoughts about the world and undermine their declared agenda. The news media are obsessed with “diversity,” as Bill McGowen demonstrated in Coloring the News, his book on how the media spins stories because of race. Some topics, including affirmative action, are taboo in newsrooms. For example, when the New York Times exposed rank incompetence and rampant criminality among rookies in the NYPD, it failed to disclose how or why such incompetence and criminality crept into the ranks: Hiring standards had been lowered to promote minorities in the name of “diversity.”
In journalism, the last few years have been one long chin-wag about diversity. The potentates of journalism discuss it with religious fervor. Editors receive dogmatic flyers and evangelical videotapes importuning them to hire minority applicants and interns and to attend minority job fairs. They receive surveys designed to measure the racial and sex complexion of newsrooms. The American Society of Newspaper Editors proclaims, “We count the number of journalists, their gender [sic] and race” in order to “help newsrooms think about diversity.” The society sponsors a silly project called “Time Out for Accuracy and Diversity.” Of course, accuracy never trumps diversity. The publisher of the New York Times has said that diversity is the most important issue facing his newspaper; this is how Jayson Blair, a serial liar with a long rap sheet of plagiarism and mendacity, slipped through the cracks.
This leftist obsession with diversity and race in the newsroom informs the media’s coverage of crime, particularly interracial crime. In a letter posted on the forum at Romenesko, on the website of the Poynter Institute, David Mills, a former writer for the Washington Times, hammered the Los Angeles Times for ignoring the mob melee at Long Beach. “You don’t have to be a card-carrying Klansman,” Mills wrote,
to point out that the LA Times surely would be treating this story differently if three black women had been attacked by 30 white teenagers hurling words like “F--- black people.” Columnists and editorial writers would be rending their garments, agonizing over the meaning of such a brutal crime. . . .
The Halloween mob assault appears to be the worst instance of black-on-white violence in Southern California since Reginald Denny took a cinder block to the head. Why is the LA Times covering it so grudgingly? The only reference to the beatings on the op-ed page came last Sunday, when Michael McGough, a senior editorial writer, wrote of this case: “I wouldn’t dare to prejudge [it] even if the facts weren’t so murky.” He then fretted that an “unintended consequence” of hate-crime laws is that “such laws could end up punishing blacks who commit violence against whites—which is a far cry from the historical experience that inspired hate-crime statutes.”
Say what? I didn’t realize that hate-crime laws were supposed to punish only white people. Presented with a shocking instance of black-on-white violence, the Times thinks the only larger issue worth discussing is whether hate-crime legislation is wrongheaded?
McGough’s point was that blacks are incapable of racism and hate crimes; they are perpetual victims. No wonder the national news media refuses to report horrific black-on-white crimes. Just as “diversity” trumps competence in the newsroom, white-on-black crime always trumps its converse.
The media’s morality play about unbridled white racism is a perilous fairy tale that justifies the media’s racial agenda not just for newsrooms but for society at large. Moreover, whites are increasingly angry about the media’s treatment of blacks and crime, which undermines what little credibility the media have and energizes unfair and unjust remarks and rage about blacks in general. This, in turn, breeds the very racial animosity the dim bulbs in the news media claim they want to erase. Yet admitting the truth would undermine the media’s hectoring, obnoxious propaganda, which insists that whites are oppressors and blacks are victims, and would deprive the race hustlers and cultural leftists of the crowning symbol that permits them to rig the courts and spin the news: the racist white bogeyman.

Just excellent.
A difficult article to digest, but vastly important nonetheless.
According to the interpretation of pending congressional legislation, churches that preach against immorality will be charged with hate crimes a la carte.
The New Century Foundation's "Color of Crime" provides a great deal of information of this topic. For instance, FBI's uniform crime provide no separate perpetrator category for Hispanics but allow for "other race" or "unknown race" categories for victims. Presumeably, most hispanic perpetrators are thrown into the "white" perpetrator category, which grossly inflates the white rate of criminal activity considering other surveys and statistics on the subject. I once called a local t.v. station to ask why, when describing a criminal on the loose, they did not inform us of his race? Prior to calling the t.v. station, I contacted the police department and was provided the criminal's race (black) in seconds. The t.v. station's response? The criminal's race was not "relevant" to the story.
The news media does not report news - it "provides" it.
As an african american who has been the victim of black on black crime, watched her mother as she was coerced into sex by black men, watched her own grandfather lewdly laugh when her mother cringed on the couch like a dog, ( and later found out that her Grandfather physically, emotionally, sexually abused her mother) herself grew up sexually abused, raped, and demoralised, (and that in just the sexual realm) who had since she was before four encountered groups of young black boys and had nightmares about it until she was in the late teens, I have a more than visceral sympathy for the victims of black on white hate crimes. But I have a sympathy for the underreported black on black rape, murder and abuse; as well. I have a sympathy for my good friend R was as a white runaway teenager was raped by two black guys in a New York city Railroad station. I have the sympathy of puerto rican woman and men who have been raped, by members of their own race and by members outside their race. I have the sympathy for a famous reggae session performer who was raped by a merchant marine in jamaica by some type of european, (I don't recall which). You grow up in a group home in New York and you hear some things, you live in the world trying to escape this darkness and you hear more things.
Yes, the left has an agenda, and the agenda it has tends to polarize people into groups with competing grievances, so that we have the parody of human beings fighting each other so that the state can recognize their human dignity, (which Christ died to prove the worth of so why do we need the state's recognition).
I think it is good to put a light on this story, but also to be careful that you don't create the polarizing effects that you are (hopefully) trying to deflect. Human beings are capable of incredible monstrosities toward each other, and the events you wrote about above are nothing less than demonic; no matter who carries them out.
Going through what I went through I could never accept the ideal of the negro as a human being without ability to commit wrongs. Yet I have been put in the strange place of trying to defend the idea that as human beings we are just as capable of atrocities...but I have, because I lived in a group home with many types of people, of european descent, mestizo descent have heard about the white on white, mestizo on mestizo; black on black abuse perpretratred on mere children; So that I have an very unhealthy perception of the human race as a whole. Yes I've seen how african americans mis-use the black equality movement to abuse not only whites, but blacks themselves, jsut as viciously. Therefore I have developed an incredible distrust of human beings...that makes it hard for me to even function well in intimate relationships with them, and makes me vulnerable to being emotionally abused not only by blacks, but by whites, mestizo's as well, but these are PEOPLE, HUMAN BEINGS who learned abusive ways to try and control their environment for the benefit of themselves irregardless of the well being of their targets. The colour , the race doesn't matter...but we must address the crime... the trangression... the falleness of human nature to address this demonic influence in the behaviour of mankind.
I believe the Orthodox Church is the best institution on the earth to confront this.

On any given day you can tune in to the leftist Democracy Now! with Amy Goodman (whose war reporting has actually been mostly stellar) and find her pointing to her guests' minority status for no reason other than that they're not white.
For example, last week she ran a bit on Lt. Ehren Watada (who's being tried for refusing to serve in Iraq) and had as a guest, Senator Daniel Akada (D-HI), who Amy Goodman introduced as, "The first senator of Native Hawaiian ancestry and the Senate’s only Chinese American member."
Well bloody good for him, but what the hell has his race got to do with why he was on the show? He was there to talk about the war, for crying out loud!
Alas, leave it to a died-in-the-wool leftist racist like Amy Goodman to make an issue out of it!
An excellent article by R. Cort Kirkwood. There has been no national coverage of the Knoxville murders, with one exception. Several weeks ago, Geraldo Rivera had a segment on his Sunday night Fox News Channel show concerning this horrific crime.
It was four minutes long, with a brief interview with the parents of the victims. Rivera mentioned that some people wonder why it isn't being called a hate crime, but reports that Tennessee doesn't have a hate crime statute. Rivera quoted the Knox County DA as saying that the heinious nature of the crime will be taken into consideration during sentencing.
Overall, it was a good report within the time allowed. I watch the "Legal News" shows, and no other has had a word about the murders of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom. Many of them are still talking about Anna Nicole Smith and Paris Hilton.

Excellent piece, I had a friend ask me why only white people are considered to be racist, and I said they're not. I'm black and I know a lot of blacks, Hispanics, and Asians who are racist and they say racist things it's not a group I told her that is racist it's the individuals themselves. I think both Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are racist (I don't know who appointed these guys as the goto guys for all things related with blacks in America I didn't, and I never would ask these guys for their opinion or help for that matter. These two guys do more to harm blacks in America by their actions and the people who think like them.) We're all Americans and we have the same ineffective leaders at all levels of government.
It's unfortunate that these incidents happen, and get no attention, but as long as you have a policy especially among liberals that perpetuate the black victim or that all minorities are incapable of taking care of themselves and being responsible for their own action this problem will only continue and will probably get worse.
These are the same limousine liberals that were for forced busing of public schools, but their children were going to private schools. They're also the same ones who believe in open borders, but live in a high security and gated community. With the incidence described in this article, who can blame them, unfortunately we all can't live afford to live in these kinds of protected communities. Which is why these stories should not be buried in a newspaper or just a quick news blurb on the nightly news.

Do you really think that it is accidental that this one sided approach to journalism is fomenting racial hatred? I believe that that is the purpose of such blatant disregard for facts. It will get to a point when vigilante justic will prevail after countless black on white crimes go unnoticed. Hate groups are growing larger everyday, the clan has doubled it's ranks in the last few years. The cause is immigration and black on white crime being ignored by the media to the point of conspiracy. I don't feel that this is accidental at all, once hate groups get large enough and begin taking action that will be the perfect excuse for the government to step in and declare marshal law.

First off: Only a people who are in control of a society can be accused of being racist. Those who make the laws, enforce the laws, control via economic and other means are the racist as they "must" have a classe of people under them to impose their will and to engage in profit as well as to demonize those considered to be inferior. Was not the "Bell Curve" a crime against Blacks especially when we know many inventions were stolen from them in the early 1900's and they have been relegated to schools which are funded 10 cents to the dollar of those for whites? How many times has white on Black crime gone unreported from the 1900's to present? Many I can assure you as Blacks are less likely to call the police to report being a victim of a race crime.
Right now in the news, Blacks are being blamed for the murder rates in cites thereby significantly highlighting Black crime and pointing the finger at all crime on Blacks.
What about the crime of not being hired to a job because you are Black, followed in stores because you are Black, being given failing grades because you are Black and I can go on and on....What about when you read the news and a young Black of 14-18 years old is described as a "MAN" while whites of the same age are described as teenagers? Yea....thought that wasn't caught didn't you? We all know the double standard.

About half the murders in this country are done by blacks, and most of them are done to other blacks. In certain areas of LA such as South Bureau, the murder rate is incredibly high. The neighborhood is predominantly black.

In Chicago there were a group of cops that requested to only work nights.They left a trail of dead African-American males all un-armed before being arrested and pleading guilty to man-slaughter charges(what a joke).I could go on and on how there are crimes committed by Whites against Blacks, for example,how many Blacks have been lynched by Whites in the 20th century?How soon we forget.

A 23-year-old pregnant woman’s jaw remains wired shut two weeks after she was savagely beaten outside her Howard Beach home in what may have been a race-motivated attack.
On May 24, the Peninsula Hospital nurse went to her car parked in front of her house, near the intersection of 157th Avenue and 96th Street at approximately midnight to retrieve a cell phone she had accidentally left behind hours earlier. She saw three black women in their 20s walking down the street in her direction. When they got to the car, they threw her to the ground and kicked her repeatedly and shouted “white b----” at her. Her fiance, showering inside after having just returned home from work, could not hear her screams. He only realized what had happened when she stumbled back inside. The couple have been in their Howard Beach home for less than a year. Although surgeons at Long Island Jewish Medical Center had to wire her jaw closed after it was broken in several places, doctors believe that her unborn child was not injured. “She’s kind of lucky. It could have been much, much worse,” said the victim’s mother. Police reportedly told the victim and her family that they believed the attackers were gang members carrying out an initiation rite. “She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time,” the mother said. Police officials did not return calls seeking comment on the status of their investigation.

The words, from the Federal Prosecutor and Attorney General, that trouble me most involve the "crime spree".
Those words are "...few months..." and '"...ongoing..."'.
Therefore, I ask, 'What is the acceptable length of time for criminals to be caught during a 'crime spree' --
days, weeks, months ? Further, does Owen direct his officers to make money for the city and KPD(i.e. "To Fine and Neglect"),
rather than actively pursue the bad buys(i.e. "To Serve and Protect") ?

Very good article. The blacks are unknowingly creating a New White Nationalism. We are now the silent majority, which will elect most major govt. officials, especially the President. Whites are losing symphathy for unappreciative Blacks that are living off taxes that we pay. Now, there are many cases where White working families have no health insurance for their families, but millions of non-working Blacks have medical, dental, optical... Yet they HATE the Whites, even the liberal ones. Of course when the media seems to calm down a bit, you have the Jesse and Al show stirring up controversy among the Blacks. Thats how they make their livings. Gotta have those donations from poor Blacks and White abolishionist. If only these Whites that are going to save the Black race would just spend more time with them, instead of entrusting their money with Pastors or Black militias, they would have a better idea of what the Black community really needs. Ah yes James the sins of the past. So much for not visiting the sins of the Father or I guess in this case the Great Great Grandfather onto the son. But since you insist lets, shall we. Lets start with slavery. If I remember correctly the first slaves arrived in this country not long after Jamestown was founded in 1609 ( all this is off the top of my head so forgive me if some of the dates are not right on the money ) So lets look at the state of slavery in the world at that time. Where was slavery , it covered the entire known world. The slaves who came to the America's were sold to slave traders by other Africans ( blacks ) Slavery continues to exist in Africa to this day. On who's shoulders does this rest. South Africa the last hold out of white rule is slowly going the way of the rest of Africa, poverty, crime and corruption. Some studies state that as many as 80 rapes a day occur in South Africa today( many believe if you have sex with a virgin it cures AIDS ) . White's in rual areas live behind barbed wire and bared windows and doors, those who have not fled the country ,yet. In this country blacks are killing each other and everyone else with a mad happy abandon. With as much as 70 - 75 % of ALL births in the African American community to young unwed mothers odds are this will continue for the foreseeable furture. I live in a very diverse community, when a muder occurs most assume two things. A black man did it and drugs were behind it , we're not usually disappointed. Here in this country if white you are 50 times more likely to be the victim of a black on white crime of violence than the reverse. Here white flight has become a stampede and is increasing. Every day more for sale signs are going up and more U- hauls leave on a one way trip for whiter pastures. Angry does not begin to describe it. Few talk about it they just leave. * shrug * I suspect I shall join then sooner rather that later.
