Christians are always being told that it is their duty to support the Welfare State. They hear this not just from Marxist atheists but from bishops, clergymen, and pop theologians. After all, we are told, charity is a greater virtue even than faith and hope. But the charity practiced by individuals is not the same thing as the wealth-redistribution imposed by socialist governments, including the socialist government of the United States. In fact, the two are diametrically opposed, and Welfare State policies actually work to undermine and destroy Christian charity.
