Inspired by Harry and Meghan

[Note from the editors: The following piece is satirical. (We hope!)]

On January 8 Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, issued a significant statement on Instagram announcing plans to change their roles within the British royal family. Further details are available to the curious. In view of the enthusiasm their bold decision has elicited among the great and the good on both sides of the Pond, I have decided to emulate their commendable example. My statement is attached herewith.

After many months of reflection and internal discussions with myself, I have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within the Chronicles institution.

I intend to stop writing my online commentaries and print-edition columns, while continuing to fully support the Editor and all our readers. I also intend to stop giving interviews to the media and attending symposia and conferences around the world.

I intend to continue collecting my monthly honorarium from Chronicles in its entirety. I will continue using my title of the magazine’s Foreign Affairs Editor–check out www.chroniclesforeignaffairseditor.com for details–in all my future money-making endeavors.

It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that I feel prepared to make this adjustment. I now plan to balance my time between the Canaries, the Riviera and the Aegean, continuing to honor my duty to the Editor, the Executive Editor, the Charlemagne Institute, and all our supporters.

This geographic balance will enable me to cultivate my sensibility with an appreciation for the political tradition into which I have matured, while also providing my persona with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of my new revenue-generating entity.

I look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as I continue to collaborate with the Editor, the Executive Editor, the Board, and all relevant parties.

Until then, please accept my deepest thanks for your continued support.
