In the five successive presidential elections, beginning with Clinton’s victory in 1992 and ending with Obama’s in 2008, 18 states and the District of Columbia, with 248 electoral votes among them, voted for the Democratic ticket all five times. John McCain did not come within 10 points of Obama in any of the 18, and he lost D.C. 92-8.
While the shaping of the judiciary is one issue a voter should weigh in casting a presidential ballot, it pays to remember that the Supreme Court is not the engine behind American government, nor is it a suitable vehicle to bring about long-term change. I have not turned on the television in over a week and have refused to listen to NPR’s reverent coverage of the Democratic National Convention. Still, I cannot help picking up stray bits from here and there. What self-absorbed little people, doing star turns in the little plays they have scripted for themselves. Just imagine, if the Democrats get in we will have a huge national debt, undeclared and foolish wars, affirmative action shoved down our throats, federal take-over of education and everything else in sight, rampant abortion, “gay rights,” open borders, government catering and giveaways to foreign countries. We will even have more terrible Supreme Court justices like Warren, Brennan, Blackmum, Stevens, Kennedy, and Souter!
