By their fruits you will know them. When BO fires the vile Rahm Emanuel, and cashiers some the the other "scotsmen" in his cabinet, then the moslem world might take him a little more seriously. Until then the world will hear much sound and fury, and see that the current administration's policy will be one in which the left hand doesn't know what the other left hand is doing.

The Israeli official who compared his country and ours as settler states neglects the salient fact that the United States in its first sixty-odd years of existence did not depend upon massive foreign subsidies. I certainly hope that Mr. Buchanan was right on the 5th and wrong on the 22nd. I am inclined to agree with the "Kirt Higdon analysis" whereby Mr. Buchanan seeks to polish his forecasting credentials by having it both ways. Were Mr. Obama really to do what Mr. Buchanan attributes to him here--completely withdraw from Iraq, achieve detente with Iran, force Israel to behave itself better, we would all be rather more blessed thereby than anyone here expected to be. I suspect this will not indeed be the case, but I will hope it is, though not audaciously.

@1: In other words, PJB is hedging his bets. Personally, for the sake of peace and justice, I would rather see detente than war; I would rather see the Palestinians restored to their land; and, I would rather see Israel humbled. So, I'm betting that Kirt's analysis proves to be true -- unless, of course, the U.S. economy implodes before December, in which case, I'm putting my money on Gerald Celente's prediction, that we'll become embroiled in a major war somewhere. I guess I'm hedging my bets, too.

@2: "...the Kirt Higdon analysis or the Pat Buchanan analysis."

As my brother so aptly pointed out, the Pat Buchanan analyses (plural) are at issue here. So far, Kirt has offered only one.

It is all Kabuki theater. Obama is trying to look presidential, when in reality the political power structure remains the same. Look at Pelosi and the Dems lame ass campaign against the Iraqi War. All talk, no action, with only the thinnest veneer of concern for the Palestinian cause being veiled by Obama.

Since none of us can know the future, let's wait until December to argue the merits of the Kirt Higdon analysis or the Pat Buchanan analysis. These matters can change rather quickly both by design and accident. One thing looks clear at this point and that is Obama and Bibi are at odds. In December, somebody can shout, " I told you so" but not just yet. Pace

Back on May 22, when PJB wrote that Bibi Netanyahu had backed BHO into a corner which would force the US to go along with an Israeli attack on Iran, I suggested that this was probably not so - and was immediately set upon by the local Buchanan brigades for suggesting that their hero might be wrong. Now PJB writes that US/Iran detente may well be in the air and Bibi may be forced by BHO to accept a Palestinian state. So maybe I was not so wrong after all, but PJB definitely has all his bases covered. No matter how this turns out, he'll be able to point to an article in which he called it.
