When you get the blending of nationalism and Christianity you always get crap stuff Like “Gott Mitt Uns”.

Really? History bears that out, does it? Love to hear your answer to that one.

The other day, I heard Chuck Colson say, "Culture is merely theology incarnate." While I might want to caution Mr. Colson about the danger of "immanentizing the eschaton", I think his statement is fundamentally sound. The question then becomes whose theology is to be incarnated.

I for one think the incarnation of Christian theology has proved superior to all others.

Only problem with this is the similarity of the Chruch's position in Russian politics with that of the Religious Right's here in America. Christ isn't a nationalist. He definitely isn't a commie either, but he isn't a nationalist. When you get the blending of nationalism and Christianity you always get crap stuff Like "Gott Mitt Uns".

Dr. Trifkovic,

Great to read your articles again. Are you planning to respond to John Laughland's article in the Brussels Journal? I have enjoyed following the debate so far.

@2 Allen

We do, indeed! Metropolitan Jonah, a convert to Orthodoxy from Anglicanism. He became a monk, then a priest, then a bishop in early November 2008. On the 12th of that same month he was elected head of the OCA.

For accuracy sake, articles like this one by Dr. T are a noticeable improvement over what he refers to in the next to last paragraph.

Perhaps there is some hope for Christian civilisation after all. Would that we had anything similar here in the now more-Communistic-than-Russia USA.
