It Can’t Be Repeated Too Often (Until It Sinks In)
The purpose of Political Correctness is to suppress true ideas. Its proponents have no interest in suppressing falsehood.
You cannot have a First World economy and military with a Third World population.
The Republican Party is not and never has been a conservative party. (For most of American history, until less than a century ago, the Democratic Party was the conservative party.)
The Republican Party has been responsible for very few acts of constructive statesmanship during its entire history. Its main activity has been to provide patronage for rich people and ambitious politicians. Most of its voters have been people with no political principles and no accurate sense of their own interests who have craved to be seen as respectable.
Ronald Reagan, a former Democrat, led many to believe that some principles might be injected into the Republican Party, but his effort was over before it began.
The main problem with free enterprise is that it is impossible to get Big Business to practice it.
Abe Lincoln was no saint, and his war was not a righteous crusade for freedom and government of the people.
America is not a democracy. It is a plutocracy (government of the rich) with elements of kleptocracy, imperialism, executive dictatorship, and judicial oligarchy.
The Constitution is not our governing document. Its essential features ceased to be binding, relevant, or even recognised long ago.

There has to be a dollop of fascism in the bland and tastelss mix, too.
Any populism that rears its battered head nowadays usually gets co-opted by a smarmy congressional demagogue, who sees which way the mob is heading, then runs out in front and pretends to assume leadership.
Your last sentence is right on, Mr Gervaise. I think that's why the system is doomed. It has inherent elements, built into it, which prevent any kind of correction. I think this often happens with systems which have been corrupted beyond the recognition of their founders.
'The main problem with free enterprise is that it is impossible to get Big Business to practice it.' That's one of several reasons why Libertarianism wouldn't work. Whether in government, society, or economy, Bigness is the disease, a return smallness is the cure.

Prof. Wilson: as a Republican in recovery, I believe this is the pithiest assessment of the GOP I have ever read. I intend to quote it (with attribution, of course) often!
If only these truthful observations could become (or the freedom to become) mainstream!
By the time I was born,on my hind legs and starting out into the business world the system was already rigged. My late father,a middling business owner, only worked for one candidate:Barry Goldwater and when the country put Johnson in the fat lady sang.My family and I have been in one never-ending battle with a rapacious welfare state largely created, sir,by the Democratic Party. If I battle back to get back a share of the taxes I've rolled in,I make no apologies. If this country is run by the rich(a debatable assertion),it is frankly bankrolled by the rich(a provable assertion).Maybe we can agree on this:it is certainly not a country run by the Main Street businessman or the wealthy of "Red State" America.Look at the zip codes of the 'Bama's contributors and its basically California,Chicago,NYC and DC.

You Chronicles cranks ruined my childhood hero; thanks a bunch. Now I have to root for the losing side? I get enough of that as a Catholic.
There has never been a conservative party in America. America was conceived as a liberal republic with a specific repudiation of the throne and altar conservatism of Europe. Republics exist to entrench the rule of an elite and the American republic is no exception. The constitutional system was created to replace rule by British royal nominees with rule by the American economic elite. They control politics by virtue of their control of money and the elections and influence it buys. The original Democratic-Republican Party was the creature of Thomas Jefferson, a liberal admirer of Jacobin France. The descendants of this party have never quite been able to shake this legacy and have always been tainted with radicalism that is now their governing orthodoxy. A partial exception to this were the Southern Democrats of yesteryear who were willing to embrace radical measures as long as they did not interfere with white supremacy in the South (hence their embrace of the New Deal).
If you accept Professor Wilson's propositions, which I do 100%, you have to tremble for the future not only of your country but your family as well. The only element that is missing is the fact that there has been a long lasting conspiracy by the plutocrats and their minions of every generation to dissemble the foundations of the original lost US Republic in a surreptitious manner so as not to be accused as traitors. If Washington, Jefferson and Calhoun were alive today, they would say that traitors have been at work for the past 200 years. What would they think of George Soros, a foreigner, a financial crook and socialist as the financial power and manipulator behind the Democratic Party, with his designated candidate as President? What would they think of the GOP grandees making back room deals with Chinese Communists to inject billions in capital to create a 'rival' to the USA while siphoning off millions of high paying jobs?
