Leaderless and Clueless America Heads for the Trash Can of History

Paul Craig RobertsIn new books, writers as disparate as Naomi Wolf and Pat Buchanan conclude that America as we know her is disappearing. Both writers hope, but are not confident, that enough Americans will catch on in time to find the leadership to pull America back from the brink.

If polls are reliable, a majority of Americans are dissatisfied with President Bush and Congress. Americans are far short of Wolf and Buchanan's grasp of our peril, however.

Americans are unable to connect their dissatisfaction with the current political leadership with their choice of new leaders. All polls show that Hillary Clinton is far in the lead for the Democratic presidential nomination and Rudy Giuliani is far in the lead for the Republican nomination. These are the only two candidates guaranteed to be worse than Bush-Cheney.

Both Hillary and Rudy are committed to the war. Both refuse to rule out expanding the war to Iran and beyond. Both are totally in the pocket of the Israel lobby. Indeed, practically every Giuliani advisor is a member of the lobby. Both defend the police state measures that "protect us from terrorism." And neither gives a hoot for the U.S. Constitution and the civil liberties it guarantees. The Republican Giuliani is likely to overturn the Second Amendment even quicker than the Democrat Hillary.

Both Hillary and Rudy are creatures of ambition, not of principle. Both are one up on Karl Marx. Marx said truth serves class interests. For Hillary and Rudy, truth is what serves their individual interests. They both wear black hats, and the horse they ride is called power.

Yet in November polls, Republicans prefer Giuliani by a margin of five or six to one over Ron Paul, the only principled Republican candidate and a person who without any doubt believes in the Constitution and would protect it.

Democrats prefer Hillary by a margin of 20 to one over Dennis Kucinich, the only member of Congress sufficiently concerned and courageous to introduce impeachment against the notorious war criminal Dick Cheney. By margins as much as 44 to one, Democrats prefer Hillary to Sen. Christopher Dodd, who promises to give America back its Constitution in the first hour of his administration. Former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel does not even register in the polls.

Obviously, the American people haven't a clue. In November 2007, they show a distinct preference for leaders who are even worse than the ones with whom they are currently dissatisfied. What does this tell us about the American people and their commitment to be sufficiently informed for democracy to function?

It tells us that they are not up to the challenge. It is only a matter of time before America succumbs to the plutocracy, against which Warren Buffet recently warned Congress, or the fascist tyranny that Naomi Wolf sees in our future.

  1. Michael,
I stated in my reply that the problem was not only political but moral and that cannot be fixed except by a return of man to the Faith. In other words...I agree with your post in comment 48.
I disagree with your second reply, comment 49. I think that is a very harsh accusation to make about Dr. Paul. If we use your logic then it would follow that ALL men shouldn't hold any public office ,Catholics included, because they are so distant from the Holy Trinity. Now youre probably thinking, "Yes they can because if they are Catholic then they are close to the Trinity."WRONG! The Church teaches that one can be fairly certain that he is in the state of grace after confession but not 100%. To say that because a man is a good Catholic he is close to the Trinity and therefore fit to rule the country is absurd and infact downright blasphemous. Do I wish that the USA would be a Catholic nation? Yes. Do I wish that there would be a Catholic constitution? Yes. Do I wish that the USA had Catholic culture? Yes. But its not a Catholic country right now and may not ever become one. Did the Church throw out the ancient Greek and Roman Philosopher's writings just because they were pagan? No, they took they good out and applied it.
Honestly I dont know why Im wasting my time replying to your comments because they are frankly quite asinine and uncharitable. I think you need read up on the Summa and the Catechism.

  2. "Mr. Paul is not Roman Catholic. How is it possible for a President Ron Paul to change the country for the better if he fails to change himself?"

But Catholics are the worst filth and scum on earth. Just look at their unholy "leader", the pedofile "pope" in Rome.

  3. Question(s) for Lord Karth:

Since the IRS is nothing but a private collection agency for the flatly illegal and unconstitutional Federal Reserve, which is no more federal than Federal Express, under what pretense of law would Congress impeach ANY president for suspending IRS enforcement actions? They would have to come out publicly in favor of this, and it would mean the complete public exposure of the entire scam. Among other things, I'm certain that Ron Paul, or anybody else (assuming that anybody else would have the balls to take such a step), would demand, among other things, that Congress produce documented proof that the 16th Amendment was legally ratified, as well as the authority granted under the Constitution for Congress to delegate the production of money to a cartel of private banks, said banks turning around and loaning the money to Congress at interest, and then Congress turning around and taxing the people to pay off Congress' debts. He would probably also demand to see any actual law that requires the average American, working in the private sector, to file a 1040, as well as the actual law that gives Congress the right to directly tax a person's WAGES in a non-apportioned manner. The proverbial fan would send the proverbial s*** flying from coast to coast, and I think that Congress would have to get out of this country overnight before the hoi polloi got their hands on them and gave them what they deserve.

  5. ditto Big M directly above...

However I love this quote of Lord Karth's: "I’ve always loved good screwball comedy—-and American politics is one of the best absurdist routines around. Why, the major party primaries by themselves have almost as much entertainment value as the Three Stooges ! ***But without Larry, Moe and Curly’s sense of seriousness or moral depth, of course.***" (end quote) ... It's true the times have me missing those giants.

I'll add I don't 'get' that the people are culturally beyond salvage - they were led astray - there was a very subtle, comprehensive 'leadership' role doing that to them or 'leading' them in that regard... Certainly one man can't lead them back again... but they can be returned to where they were and actually in Fact prefer to Be. They were duped.

July and August aren't supposed to be 'too' hot... etc. ?

  6. Big M,

"... under what pretense of law would Congress impeach ANY president for suspending IRS enforcement actions? ..."

Under exactly the same pretense of law that _you_ are forced to pay federal taxes and that each and every legal challenge to IRS to date has failed miserably.

  7. Ben:

Apparently, you haven't heard of some of the recently decided cases challenging the IRS, or their outcomes. You might be surprised. It's just that the Zionist-controlled "mainstream" media has completely suppressed them, although you can find them. Try googling Tommy Cryer for starters.

  8. ditto Big M - i'm cool in that i like dittoing i don't have an Ego when it comes to truth, fortunately... HAHAHA -

ol'Ben - he's not 'gentle' like the hollywood bear 'gentle ben' ... but he is benighted Ben... 'chosen Ben?' ... ahh - yes - but ben, chosen for what?

get the endorphins going a different way - ben - kay-?-before it's too late? there's always forgiveness (although not in your own tradition, sadly) sadly. rejoice! you're free, almost... finally!

  9. Dr. Wilson @ 42: "However, one good man in the right place at the right time can make a big difference in the survival of a people. History has many examples of this. "

Respected sir, I will stipulate to that quite readily, since your historical knowledge vastly outstrips mine. However, I am not quite sure that even a President Paul would be able to make enough of a difference, when the current dominant culture of the Empire is as degenerated as it is. Also, I think we all should remember that a President is not an Emperor, not even an Emperor-Wannabe like the current Infestor of the Oval Office. A President Paul truly concentrating on reducing the power of the Empire to the Constitutional norms of 1789 (assuming he gets that far) would find himself at odds with most of Congress, virtually all the Imperial bureaucracy and the corporate Lords who serve as their financial backers.

In addition, we would also do well to remember that the above-named Iron Triangle would also be joined in resistance by a large portion of the American commonoriate, as I stated earlier. Over the last 100 years, the typical American commoner has become accustomed to a historically high level of welfare-state benefits, not the least of which is the "freedom" from having to support elderly members of their families in their dotage. They have also become conditioned to accept servitude to bureaucrats in both public and "private" sectors; Morris Bishop wrote (correctly) that no modern American employee should look down his nose at a medieval vassal. He wrote truer than he knew; any medieval subinfeudatee or villein would rebel if taxed at the level of a modern fry cook, and his reaction to being part of a corporate or IRS database would make Harris and Klebold's actions at Columbine look utterly tame.

To answer Mr. Springer @ 55, the American commoner was "led astray" quite willingly. No coercion was required.

Finally, to answer Justitia @ 45, I am pointing out the existence and size of a serious social problem. I "help the country" by making some of my (thinking) fellows aware of their real conditions of life.

In order to correct a situation, mon ami, one first has to be aware that something is wrong with it. As to solutions.....I have ideas about some of them, but you would likely consider them quite radical and quixotic. In truth, I am not at all sure the American body politic would welcome such operations, or survive were theyt to be performed, either by "President Paul" or any other Human.

    As always, I remain

    Your servant,

    Lord Karth

P.S. Thank you all for allowing me the privilege of being part of this discussion. We may be the only ones engaging in it, and I believe it is of the highest importance.

  10. Incidentally, if any of you are interested in one of the more unusual visions of a future "American" society, I commend to your attention the novel "Fitzpatrick's War", by one Theodore Judson. Some of you may find what he has to say about modern American "culture" worthy of attention.

    Literarily yours,

    Lord Karth

  11. Thanks Lord Karth... however i'll only add i do not believe people recognize sufficiently that they being conceptual creatures -the 'coercion' happens at that subtle level as a soft, but highly effective matter. ... It's why i always like to stress again and again that he who has the media wins. Especially when today it is being used for that [coercive] purpose and is not subscribing to the western tradition of freedom of speech, since only the west ascribes to as a given that multiple and diverse voices help contribute best to an apprehension at any given moment of the truth. And that this is salutary. I.e. two heads are better than one and so on... Those having the press today in all of its mainstream forms do not carry that Value regarding freedom of speech, themselves. So we disagree you and I in my maintaining that YES quite definitely the folks have been led astray and put to sleep, and that yes this does in effect (of course) amount to coercion.

You too are a conceptual creature, as am I - however i do suspect that i may be more aware of it, myself. ?

There is a myth in this regard, for example that a person hypnotized can nontheless Not be made to do under the hypnosis what they would not do otherwise. I believe you Lord Karth would be one who leans toward believing this. However it is not the case because everything a human being considers as a conceptual creature is predominantly Contextual. CONTEXTUAL. If under hypnosis (assuming you are one of the majority who can be hypnotized - and probably you are not one of the majority in this regard, but for the sake of this example) and I were to instruct you - 'Lord Karth kill your mom, lets face it she's an unnecessary burden a ball and chain around your leg, and you'd be better off without the old hag.' You would balk.

However under the hypnosis were I to weave a tale to re-create the context itself in which you perceive who your mom is - E.g. - 'You never knew this Lord Karth but long ago and very sadly, some years after you were born your mother came into contact with aliens from another planet who have possessed her body along with the bodies of other women who work together with her. And in fact she, this person deceivng you pretending to be your mother has been gone since your 5th birthday...and now this other creature who is not your mother is about to the lead the other aliens in destroying [by releasing a virsus] all of the human beings who live on this planet. And only you know who this creature is because you know what she looks like. You know what she looks like don't you? "Yes." Unless you stop this creature NOW who is Not your mother, everyone on the planet will perish. Do you see how VITAL it is Lord Karth that you stop, that you shoot in the head as soon as you see her, with no regard for your own-self or your own safety, this creature leading the other aliens who is about to destroy us all-Do you UNDERSTAND this? "Yes." Here is the gun. Will you go now and do this to save us all without pause or delay? "Yes."

Rather simplistic example but the first case only expresses an opinion about your mom being a ball and chain and an old hag - the second case weaves a tale that denies she is even your mother (or what you perceive a mother to be) and creates a context that who she actually is now is obviously evil, and so the entire context has been altered at the conceptual level. And you know what this creature looks like that's why it's you who should pull the trigger.

This sort of context shifting is what a totalitarian press especially when yet pretending to subscribe to the indigenous traditions of free speech in order to enjoy that additional cover can accomplish.

On one level I am surprised that you don't see this necessarily yourself, but on another level since we ALL are conceptual creatures I actually believe I do Notice its effects on us ALL. And to varying degrees of course as is the case.

You should ask yourself the simple question - of the overwhelmingly vast number of the population who can be hypnotized can they be convinced under the hypnosis to do what they otherwise would Not do.

If you realize the answer to that is Yes... even if prior you suspected it was in the negative, then you have your answer.

The good news is that - no, the people are Not as fundamentally swinish as you may perceive them to be; but the bad news is yes when context/s are manipulated they can be made to do [albeit blindly] things you might have assumed were off the table, regardless of the swinish element.

It is about [percieved] context when dealing with ALL conceptual creatures. Do you, yourself, 'get' this?

This is Why the value of freedom of speech so that there actually are in Fact a plethora of viewpoints, perspectives and thus contexts is so Valuable in the human experience. Perhaps even more valuable than you yet realized?

I don't know. But I do KNOW that your maintaining the position you do, does tend to make matters worse. (If that's possible.)

  12. I believe the problem is not only in America but in all our "democracies" today. For example the lack of moral principles and the perversion of language and the law? War means peace? Pornography is "free expression." Choice on abortion means killing the child in the womb. So-called "same-sex marriage" is another misnomer. And on and on it goes. Is their a virus out there eating our so-called leaders brain cells, who in turn transmit it to the public. To repeat an old saying: "Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first drive mad."
