Don Who?

Thomas J. FlemingI am a lucky man. If you had asked me last week who Don Imus was, I’d have said, “A radio shock jock who wears a cowboy hat and insults people.” I’ve never heard more than a minute or two of “Imus in the Morning” or succeeded in watching the televised version any longer than it takes to grab the remote from a hotel room’s nightstand and change channels. Perhaps there is something wrong with me, but illiterate nutballs on cocaine do not strike me as amusing. And, no, I don’t like Robin Williams either. But, fascinated by America’s fascination with filth, I have wasted a few more minutes of life in finding out who this Don Imus is.

Like his role model Howard Stern, Imus has made a career out of saying nasty things about people. Sometimes the people are powerful enough to fight back. Congressman Joe Barton, Rush Limbaugh, the Wall Street Journal, Howard Kurtz. Other times, they are just ordinary people who happen to be in his way. Like Contessa Brewer who read the news on his show. Imus characterized her as a fat and ugly—she is neither—”skank,” an expression, which should have got him fired, at least, and in a better world would have earned him a good beating from Brewer’s menfolk. Imus has all the subtle good humor of the rich man who spits in the beggar’s outstretched hand. In a country where low-life creeps like Bill Clinton can get elected President, Don Imus became a national celebrity.

Imus’s nasty remarks about the Rutgers women’s basketball team were nothing new. Bigotry was his stock-in-trade. Though Imus has been, for the most part, a political leftist, it was his rudeness and racial slurs that attracted a populist base. In America, this passes for courage and originality. To be fair to Imus, he did not say anything about blacks that blacks do not say about each other, constantly, in comedy routines and in their so-called music. It is amusing to hear the smug denunciations of NPR newsreaders who routinely laud the artistic genius of rap artists and movie directors. Imus’s offensive little rap about the Rutgers women was in fact lifted from Spike Lee. Why isn’t Spike Lee drummed out of Hollywood? For the same reason that pious liberals have shown no reluctance (until this incident) to appear as guests on Imus’s show. None of them were deterred by his years of vilifying women, Christians, homosexuals, and Jews. Spike Lee, Puff Daddy/Diddy, and Don Imus are good business.

But when a white guy repeats Spike Lee on the air, he becomes a sacrificial victim.

Inevitably some conservatives are defending Don Imus on the grounds of free speech for bigots. In one sense, I suppose, they may have some kind of point. We are so bombarded with hate and filth from the media that the elimination of one bad-mouthing bigot will not appreciably improve the airwaves. But Imus and Howard Stern, Al Franken, Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, Sean Hannity and all the other goof-balls on American radio and television have, each in his own way, made money by degrading public discourse, feeding our ignorance and irrationality, preying upon our fears and our hatred for no better motive than greed, for no other reason than to get the money that feeds their habits.

In a country where Newt Gingrich could lead the charge against Bill Clinton’s erotic pecadillos, and Clinton himself could accuse his predecessors of compromising the integrity of the White House, it makes perfect sense for Don Imus, an alcoholic and coke-head, to attack Rush Limbaugh as a pill-popper, which he was and probably still is. Of course it is a mistake to take either one of them seriously: Imus is no more a bigot than Limbaugh is a conservative. They both take money to provide consumers with unclean thrills. The mere fact that Limbaugh’s drug problems and Imus’s career problems have been front-page news tells us what kind of country we are living in.

  1. Slight change in chronology:

"Like his role model Howard Stern, Imus has made a career out of saying nasty things about people."

This is incorrect. Don Imus "invented" this style some 40 years ago, while he worked in NYC, got fired and sent to Detroit, Cleveland (or some similar low profile place in the Midwest), came back to NYC about 1976, and in 1979 gave Howard Stern his first break. Stern learned from Imus - and started considerably later.

  2. Dearest Chronicles readers and writers,

Imus saying the women were "hos" or gangsters is not the worst thing that could happen to us. The real problem here is the failure to be able to distinguish race and culture. Imus typecast them culturally. The women had tatooes which were covered in press conferences. That is something associated with people who are thugs.

The problem is that when one mentions evidence of anti-social behavior, it is considered racism. Their race had nothing to do with it. If we do not have the ability to shame those who engage in, or give evidence of, anti-social behavior we lose the ability to control our culture.

To be able to address such issues without slander being attached to us, we must be able to separate race and culture in our discourse. To this end, I have coined the term "culturism." I will send a free rerview copy of this book to the first three people who e-mail me or any writer for my favorite magazine: Chronicles.

  3. When you do the type of show Don Imus did you are bound to cross a line. However no one mentions that in going after Don Imus they may be going after Caucasian America with him being the excuse.
Mr.Imus is a very bright man and one of the best interviewers of public power figures in the media. He started his system long before Howard Stern and bears little relationship to Stern in a number of ways.Mr.Fleming has never watched him enough to make an informed opinion. It does not mean that Mr.Imus would be everyones cup of tea or that he does not need to be told to kiss off at times. It appears that we will not have to worry about it any time soon.
I find Mr.Flemings use of the words bigot and racist offensive. He seems to be trying to ingratiate himself with our conquerors. When he labels others it must mean that he is not guilty of the supposed sins.
Mr.Fleming, and Chronicles ,have never stood up for the founding Caucasian Nation which is our identity and power base.I assume this would be Racist in his lexicon.Chronicles should be the Commentary of the Caucasian Nation that founded this Country and put its Racial identity on it.This is our real History and identity but Mr.Fleming nor any other supposed Paleo ,except the late Sam Francis, and definitely no Conservative, will speak up from this voice and identity.
That is the reason we are not listened to because we are just another nameless entity among a Country of Immigrants with no Racial identity connected with founding and building of the U.S.! That is a bunch of crap and any reading of our History spells it out.Our silence aides and abets the rewriting of our History and the destruction of our identity and existence.
We are going to have a massive amnesty which will drive us across the Rubicon. The once 90 % of the U.S. Caucasian Nation will drop to 50 % by 2030. When 2080 rolls around we may be down to 10 %. This is the greatest Genocide in the History of the Nation State.Mr.Fleming,Mr.Macho man,is totally silent about this.
We have had no voice, vote, input,or Representation in the radical transformation of this Country! The Republic is gone and the two party system which was made by and for the Caucasian Democratic Republic is dead!
A new Country means a new Government! My descendants need to be listed as the original founding native americans! We now have no collective standing in a coming Country that will require that you have one if you are to exist! Hannah Arendt stated the necessity of standing up from your identity if you are to survive. This may be to Racist for Mr.Fleming but that is too bad and if he would like to meet me in a dark alley i would be glad to change his attitude.
I may be a 70 year old dropout but i refuse to submit to this denigration and name calling by anyone.I will not deny my History and Ancestors. You can still be fair to and respectful of others but we are in a battle that left that problem behind long ago.
Yes i do not like to see Black guys hustling Caucasian Women! This is not an issue of Civil,Constitutional,or Moral right! It is a battle of Racial Nationalism concerning turf, territory, and women. The foundation of Community. If Fleming and his supporters do not like that they know what they can do about it.

  4. T.R Kelly,
What you are pointing out is the Chronicles Magazine like all other mainstream media is ignoring the simple facts of history concerning the creation and growth of America into a superpower. All Caucasian nations on earth have been first in building areas that all others want to live in. Mass immigration into every white area is destroying the culture and heritage of the people that created it. It makes no difference if the writer or media personality is conservative or liberal; they stand on the sidelines while white America is subjected to hideous race murders like Emily Haddock or Channon Christian and Chris Newson. They either gently protest illegal immigration or support an amnesty. Their real goal is the creation of a government welfare state. Hate crime laws and the patriot act are just the being. If they can keep the Caucasian population fat dumb happy and stupid then they will win without a shot being fired and they are succeeding. It is too late to save America, too much damage as already been done. Maybe at some point it could be reclaimed but for now white America must be awakened and alternative solution put in place.
